CDs Reviews F THE FISH BROTHERS Follow Thru Having spent all of 3 days 'on the road' with these fellas, you'd think it would be more than enough to put me off for life. But no, I can't get enough. Picture, if you will, a cross betwixt THE BONZO DOG DOODAH BAND, THE MOTHERS OF INVENTION, THE BUS STATION LOONIES, ALBERTO Y LOST TRIOS PARANOIAS, THE CHINEAPPLE PUNX and WAT TYLER and Bob's yer Uncle; the world's first & only Music Hall Crossover Punk band. A delight for one and all - 19 singalong drinkalong songs inc. "24 Hour Drinking", "Things I Hate", "I am the President" (aka "You Fat Bastard") and "Brief History of the World". Guaranteed to make even the most miserable cry with joy & the most cheerful slash their wrists. THE FISH BROTHERS Number Two 19 more tracks of happy punky drinking songs, many better, some worse and among 'em "The Melk", "Falling to Bits", "Horrible People", "Money Rolls In" and "The Nazis had Tiny Genitalia". Elements of almost every band you've ever liked in your life, rude & highly amusing lyrics, with tunes you'd swear you'd heard before (most likely because they're all nicked). Fair turned me into the dribbling alcoholic stumbling before you. I love them and one day will have Chesty Charnsworth's lovechild. FLEAS & LICE / THE RESTARTS Split CD FLEAS & LICE "Recipes for Catastrophes" Harsh Realities, Breaking the Law, I Need a Drink, Big Brother, Forced to Eat Sh*t, Rest in Punk, And Again, Delirium Tremens, Paranoid World, Sh*t for Brains, Lie to Myself, The Pain THE RESTARTS "State Rape" State rape, Divide and Rule, Fare Evasion, The Ladder, Drunken Voices, Tinpot Hitler, Parasite Monarchy, Times Hard REJECT RECORDS FUGAZI The Argument CD 2001 release and, many rave, 'tis one of their best. Certainly this is more like the album which should've followed "Repeater" and certainly doesn't let down. Some VERY impressive tracks, with as much power, conviction, atmosphere and insight as you could eat. Still the same line-up (impressive enough in its self, after all these years) with messers MacKaye and Picciotto alternating vocal duties with each song. Should really be an all-rounder, no punker would look out of place with this in their collection, but even those who've tried to grow-up would look sophisticated with this on their stereo. I don't really believe they will ever surpass the first couple of LPs, but this 11 track selection does come close. FUGAZI Instrument Soundtrack CD Different from the norm of the band's studio albums, this is basically a collection of demos. Inspirational for budding composers! Pink Frosty (Demo Version), Lusty Scripps, Arpeggiator (Demo Version), Afterthought, Trio's, Turkish Disco, Me and Thumbelina, Floating Boy (Demo Version), Link Track, Little Debbie, H.B., I'm So Tired, Rend It (Demo Version), Close Captioned (Demo Version), Guilford Fall (Demo Version), Swingset, Shaken all Over, Slow Crostic. |
