CDs Reviews E EASTFIELD Fanaticos Pata Trenes CD Just a shot in the dark, but one might suspect that the title's got summat to do with train spotting. This is the 2nd album from the crazy poppy punky spikies, very much in the up-tempo vein of PASSION KILLERS, CUCKOOLAND, BLYTH POWER, ZOUNDS, with elements of THRILLED SKINNY, and WAT TYLER. EASTFIELD have become a passion very close to my heart, and such instantly vigourating bouncealong nuggets The Black Hole, Aspartame, Eddie Watson, Just Like the Sixties and my fave, Drive on Henry, will have you full of live and punk. Join EASTFIELD in their infectious quest for improving railways, destroying multinationals and quoting '70s TV adverts. EASTFIELD Roverbrain CD Jessi has got to be one of the most prolific punkers about at the moment (along with Alex of "Barbie's dead" zine), churning out those lyrical nuggets of his like there's no tomorrow. For fellow train spotters & fans of the band's previous two full-lengthers; it's generally accepted by both current and ex-members alike, that this album is the best so far! Recorded when the band were a mere 3-piece (and, at the time, three-quarters of THE BUS STATION LOONIES!), containing such modern-day masterpieces as "The Cult of Ted Moult", "Three Chords Good, Four Chords Bad", "Cancer of the Universe", "Port Talbot Transport Police" and, of course, "Fare Dodging". Punky, punchy, poetical & political - will be regarded as a classic in years to come, if it isn't already. A dodgy Ruptured Ambitions release. EASTFIELD One wrong can move a people and a wronged people can move the world EP CD Their longest title and swiftest release to date, also boasts the best handful of 'sides' the Midland punk rascals have thrust in your ears thus far. More punches than a bout of bare-knuckle tai-chi, tighter than a set-list in Limerick, and speedier than the second fastest cycle courier in London. It's as if everything came together in just one weekend in Frognall, for the UK's RAMONES of the railways (which, in fact, it did). Proving, that a brief spell at a Punx Picnic in Plymouth can refresh the parts Jessi's trousers can't reach. So open up and get-on-down, put your feet back on the ground, this IS the sound that everybody loves. 5 gloriously individual punk anthems, with Elvis is Dead and Jazz is Sh*t making up an eighth of my desert island discs. |
